What is „Vitafolate“ and what is it used for?

„Vitafolate” contains (6S)-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (MTHF), patented under the name Quatrefolic® , enriched with vitamin B-complex.

Quatrefolic® doenst need metabolization, because it is identical with the bioactive form of folic acid in the human body. It is a clean and stable glucosamin salt of the Methyltetrahydrofolic acid. (6S)-5-(6S)-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (MTHF) has fundamental importance for the metabolic processes in the body.

  • This bioactive folate contains up to 7 times bigger bioavailability than folic acid, which is especially important for people who have a genetic defect in metabolizing folic acid enzymes, because it doesnt need to be transformed to become metabolically active.
  • Also, another reason other than genetic defect, the transformation of folic acid into active form can be compromised by stress and inappropriate lifestyle.
  • Unlike folic acid, 5-MTHF as Quatrefolic® can pass throught hematoencephalic barier, which is especially important for people with cognitive disorders, because it increases the synthesis of acetylcholine – neurotransmitter associated with memory and concentration.
  • Healthy diet with 5-MTHF intake can lower the risk of birth defects, including spina bifida. Studies done in the recent years show the advantages of the reduced form of folate over folic acid. The use of reduced and methylated form of folate is necessary by poeple who cant metabolize folic acid from food and food supplements.

Vitamin B1 (Tiamine mononitrate) - The most preferred form of Vitamin B1. Stable with very good absorption Vitamin B1 is needed for cell growth, carbohydrate and fat metabolism and energy production. It acts as an antioxidant and participates in the synthesis of myelin.

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin-5-phosphate) - Bioactive tissue form of riboflavin. It participates in the formation of erythrocytes, the absorption of energy from proteins and carbohydrates, takes part in the immune protection of organisms. It is needed for healthy nerve cells, skin and mucous membranes.

Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) - Does not cause redness of the face (unlike niacin). Important for a healthy cardiovascular system and proper metabolism, especially for maintaining normal cholesterol levels, good memory and concentration. It is a growth factor and is needed to produce energy in cells by participating in acetylation and oxidation.

Vitamin B5 (Calcium D-pantothenate) - More stable than pantothenic acid and therefore is also the more effective and preferred form of Vitamin B5. It plays a key role in lipolysis and carbohydrate metabolism, synthesis of neurotransmitters (serotonin, acetylcholine, dopamine), steroid hormones and hemoglobin.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxal 5-phosphate (P-5-P)) - The most innovative coenzyme form of vitamin B6. There is no need for liver transformation - this provides higher bioavailability and eliminates possible metabolic problems. Stimulates correct assimilation of fat and protein. It is also important for red blood cells, as it is involved in the formation of precursors of glutathione - one of the most important antioxidants in the body. Helps alleviate the symptoms of PMS. Useful for the visual system.

Vitamin B7 (D-biotin) - The naturally occurring, biologically active form of vitamin B7. It participates in the synthesis of amino acids and fatty acids, as well as in gluconeogenesis. Biotin is an important factor in the reparation of DNA molecules, it is important for insulin metabolism and the immune response to inflammation.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcalbamine) - Better absorbed, stored and used than other forms of B12. Methylcobalamin and niacinamide support the cardiovascular and nervous system. Necessary for erythrocyte synthesis, for proper functioning of the nervous system, for DNA synthesis, etc. Vitamin B12 can only be acquired from animal food.
